TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend an STV visa in Bangkok, you should go to the MTT immigration office, specifically to Counter J on the 3rd Floor. It's important to prepare the necessary documentation for the extension, such as proof of long-term accommodation after the 14-day quarantine. Detailed experiences or requirements for this process can vary, and it's recommended that anyone applying for a 90 day extension of stay based on tourism share their nationality, requirements used, immigration office, and any relevant experiences to help future applicants.

I'm closing comments on this post:

1. The STV is a new visa, and people who were issued them are just now starting to come up on the 90 day mark.

2. From the application itself:

"5. Proof of long-term accommodation after the 14-day quarantine. The applicant is required to provide one of the following evidences of payment which could be any of the following:

Proof of payment paid in full until departure date for hotel or accommodation to be used after discharge from quarantine and hotel’s contact details and tax ID number;

Copy of a condominium title deed owned by the visitor or a family member.

A fully paid residential lease in Thailand issued by the lessor showing the duration of stay, and the lessor’s contact details and tax ID number;

Evidence of payment for the purchase or lease of a condominium-type residence that foreigners can legally buy or lease."

I would assume the requirements are the same to get the extension of stay. However, we don't know.

3. *IF* the immigration office does require the proof of accommodation like I wrote above, and you d not need the requirements, you can leave Thailand, apply for an appropriate visa, and then return. Trying to convert the STV to another type of visa *WILL RESULT* in a person being blacklisted

For people who entered on the STV and are applying for a 90 day extension of stay based on tourism, *PLEASE* make a new post or send a mod a message with the following information:

1. Your nationality.

2. The specific requirements (including if they require a pre-paid booking), and the requirements that you used to get the extension of stay. Ideally, show a copy of the handout.

3. The immigration office used.

4. A picture of the 90 day stamp that was issued.

5. Any other relevant information

If you're thinking about getting an STV to enter Thailand, as a replacement for the old Multiple Entry Tourist Visa that's no longer being sold, please don't :( . Please always get the visa that matches the purpose of your stay.

Thank you.

What happens if you want to stay with a friend living in Thailand?

to get an extension of stay based on STV, you can’t. It looks like the STV was designed for a specific type of tourist: very rich tourists who spend the winter in Thailand and stay in one place. It’s not a replacement for the METV of old 😞

Haha, they didn't have me in mind for it then, with my scruffy clothes and backpack.

That's what you need to ask to immigration office.

The invitation letter from your friend with friend's ID, contract, etc, would work for some cases (standard Tourist VIsa, etc) sometimes. But for STV, unknown.

@Ellie ******
OK, thank you.

After you get your 90 day extension of stay based on tourism from an STV, can you tell us what is needed to get that extension of stay? There’s been very few reports of people getting this extension of stay

Now I'm back on my computer. Here's what's required for the extension of stay based on STV in Bangkok. Point 7, I understand, requires the pre-paid booking and the hotel/ condo tax ID number.

There's about 2,000 people who are in Thailand with the STV though, and I don't think most of them are on Facebook.

My advice: Go to MTT and ask for the handout for the extension of stay based on STV, and apply for it, if you meet the requirements.

Thanks so much for all your help.

@Jacky ********
And please help us by letting us know exactly what they require. If immigration is going to be strict about the requirements, I can imagine a lot of people are going to be burned by that visa :(

I'll definitely give feedback. I used Fbk groups lots to get into Thailand initially and am always happy to help others who will follow.

Sure. I was hoping there'd be more reports. ;) I tried to get it done in Pai two weeks' ago but they weren't even geared up for it yet.

I have a list on my computer that I got from James Miller. One of the things I heard they require is a prepaid hotel for the length of the extension with the hotels tax number, which is tripping up a lot of people.
@James *******
, can you share that list?

@Benjamin *****
Rental agreement/contract covering the extension days would work, too.
Benjamin ******
@Ellie ******
but won’t it need the tax ID number?
James ********
@Benjamin *****
its required...but appears immigration offices are varying in requiring it.
Ellie *******
@Benjamin *****
That may depend on immigration office. But I doubt they need Tax ID.. If you have decent contract information. The report of STV extension a while ago mentioned as just condo contract.

Yes, I have no clue how I will get that. I wish now that I'd stuck with the idea of getting a TR visa.

Go to MTT. Counter J, 3rd Floor.
