Do we need to apply through Thai consulate ? I thought everything was online unless they invite you to consulate if they need extra documents. Please advise. I was planning to apply online.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You must apply for a Thai visa through a consulate, even if you initially thought the process was fully online. The application can be initiated online, but you need to be physically present in the country where you are applying. Some consulates may require a mandatory interview, which can sometimes be conducted virtually.

You DO apply online thru a thai consulate and you have to physically be IN the country whose thai consulate you're applying at.

You upload proof you're legally in that country when you fill out the online application.

SOME consulates in some countries do have a mandatory interview (both consulates in Lao do for sure) some do virtual interview via online program
