TLDR : Answer Summary
As a US passport holder traveling to Bangkok for 4 days, you do not need a visa. You are entitled to a 60-day visa exemption upon arrival in Thailand. However, it is required to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) prior to your travel. Additionally, it is advisable to carry at least 20,000 Thai Baht in cash (or its equivalent) as proof of funds at immigration.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

No Visa is required but make sure that you have equivalent to 20,000 thb on you - it could be in USD just in case immigration ask you and you need to fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Form in advance.

Over the last several years, I have come to Thailand twice (or once) a year for just under a month at a time. These have always fit nicely into visa exempt entries and never without question of my touristic intent.

I am coming soon for my first trip this year, will similarly be under 30 days, within the visa exempt parameters. I didn't and don't expect any issues coming in and enjoying my stay (Bangkok, Hua Hin, brief Chiang Mai) and have all arrangements made and documented. Given the current situation (and with entry under visa exempt being entirely up to the immigration officer you come to) and the significance/cost of a denial of entry (US based), I chose to apply for a single entry tourist visa (even if it is not required). In the past, embassies would not process the applications. My visa was issued on a Monday after a Thursday application. The extra (not absolute) peace of mind was worth the $40.

Americans can enter under Visa exempt for 60 days as the law currently sits with a U.S. Passport. The law is being considered for a reduction to 30 days Visa exempt but hasn’t changed yet. 1 law that is being enforced more is the cash amount needed to enter Thailand. You must have 20K Thai Bhat in cash upon arrival (or USD equivalent). Immigration may accept a bank statement showing savings or checking of that amount but that’s getting more rare because of fraud & Visa overstays. Hope this helps. FYI, I live in Bangkok with a DTV visa & keep up with changes via Siam Legal YT channel.

No need as long as you don’t exceed 60 days.

you need to have filled out and submitted the online TDAC digital arrival card up from 72 hours before the planned arrival at BKK. . . . . . A US Citizen does not need a visa to enter Thailand. However it depends on your recent 1-year Thai Immigration stamp history . . if you have made many visa-exempt entries and stays, there will be the moment Immigration will pull you aside and ask about your intentions

Only need it if you over 4 days. Better check the times of your flights as they count it by the hour.

No need for any visa with a US passport. You'll receive a 2 month visa exemption upon arrival. Do however complete a virtual arrival card for customs online though.

You can spend your time rolling over like a trained spaniel for inconsiderate, lazy, feckless people if you like. Knock yourself out and virtue signal yourself into the stratosphere, Karen.

Americans do not qualify for visa on arrival, which only applies to a few nationalities that must pay for a 15 day visa on arrival. Over 90 other nationalities, including Americans, instead currently qualify for 60 day visa exempt entry, which is not a visa at all as defined by Thai immigration.
