TLDR : Answer Summary
With a multiple entry O-A visa, you do not need a reentry stamp for your first year of entry, as you are granted a year entry stamp which allows you to stay for that period. However, if you reenter Thailand after the first year, you will need a reentry permit to keep your visa status valid.

The OA is valid for a year, and on each entry you get stamped in for one year ( if you have insurance for that time). If you enter just before that year is up you get stamped in for a year - but your visa has now expired (or will soon). Your entry stamp is good for a year so to keep that alive you’d need a reentry permit (single or multiple-up to you).

So simple answer for the first year you don’t need a permit, but for the second year you would.

OA is multi entry, so no re-entry permit required.

I think I said that. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

found your answer confusing. 🙈😁I've not needed a re-entry permit and I've been in and out a few times. Also in year 2.

You may have well been in an out a few times for the validity of the visa, but I can guarantee you haven’t been out and back since the year visa expired, without having a reentry permit to keep your stamp “alive”.

this is correct, I just had mine stamped and it says on the stamp that reentry permit is required before you leave.

gotcha . Understand now 👍

Sorry you did so. You can enter 300 times in the first year of that visa, should you wish to do so, and on each entry you get stamped in for a year (insurance permitting). However to take advantage of the second year it affords you’d need a reentry permit to keep the “permitted to stay until” stamp alive.
