Hello everyone. Help again please. Immigration told me that I should cancel my volunteer visa before leaving and I need a cancelation letter. (My visa expires on January 9th). The person in my foundation said “what day do you want to cancel?” And I said January 3th (to cancel with time). My question is: “now I have to leave the country on January 3th or January 9th?”

TLDR : Answer Summary
When cancelling your volunteer visa, your departure date will depend on the date specified in the cancellation letter you request from your foundation. If you ask them to indicate a cancellation date of January 9th in the letter, you can stay until that date. However, if they write January 3rd, you must leave by that date. Additionally, you may have the option to request a 7-day extension at immigration if needed.

I just did a border bounce yesterday off a volunteer visa. There was a problem/error on the system at border immigration. Red flag saying I've overstayed 1 year. Held up my visa party for a long time. Eventually they confirmed it was a 'system error' after they confirmed the visa was valid. Maybe the 'error' was due to not having canceled the vol visa beforehand.

I went to Satun province and crossed into Malaysia. Not sure the name of the border place.

Just have your visa agent on hand to explain the details over phone.

Can you send me the visa agent contact you came with please?

you need to contact the agent who organized your volunteer visa mate, so they can provide your particular details to the IO. My agent didn't have a clue why there was a system error. They also don't know about a cancelation letter.

You have to leave on the date of the letter; however you can ask for a 7 day extension at Immigration cost is ฿1,900 baht and you have to fill out the TM47 form….most immigration officers understand the circumstances and will give it, but you might end up with that one I/O who won’t so be prepared…

it's not an extension, it's an application denied stamp.

it’s still in the simplest term an extension of 7 days…

You'll need to leave by whatever date they wrote on the letter that you asked them for. That's the date your visa will be cancelled. If you want it cancelled on the 9th you need to ask for them to write that on the letter. You can then go in on the 3rd and they will cancel your visa for January 9th and stamp you in until then, giving you time to leave.
