Hello everyone. Help again please. Immigration told me that I should cancel my volunteer visa before leaving and I need a cancelation letter. (My visa expires on January 9th). The person in my foundation said “what day do you want to cancel?” And I said January 3th (to cancel with time). My question is: “now I have to leave the country on January 3th or January 9th?”

TLDR : Answer Summary
When you cancel your volunteer visa on January 3rd, you must leave Thailand by that date. However, if you request the cancellation letter to state that you are permitted to stay until January 9th, you can remain in the country until that date before departing. Consider giving yourself enough time to pack and leave after the cancellation.

Someone can correct if I'm wrong but you may be able to buy a 7 day extension denied stamp for 1,900B if you want the extra time to leave with the 3rd letter.

MIGHT be able to BUT that's totally gonna be up to the immigration officer they're sitting in front of.

they don't have to sell you that 7 day get outta thailand extension denied stamp for 1900 and can cancel the extension from the date on the letter and tell you to get out that day.

That was certainly a mistake on your part to have them write the 3rd when your current extension expires on the 9th 🙁

That means when you show up Tuesday the 3rd, they'll cancel it effective that day and if they won't sell you the 7 day get out of thailand stamp you will need to be outta the country by midnight that day or run on overstay..

If you cancel your permitted to stay inside Thailand on day xx/xx/xx. you have to leave on that day xx/xx/xx and not 6 days later or whenever you choice.

So in your question cancel on Jan 3 means leaving Jan 3 before midnight, as the organization is willing to adapt the last day of you working for them, pich a day so you have time to pack your bags and leave after you also cancelled your work permit.

You want the letter to state January 9th, you can go to immigration the week before to cancel it and they will let you stay until the 9th
