TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, if your passport is stamped with March 22 as the last date you can stay in Thailand, you must leave before midnight that day. This means you can clear immigration until 11:59 PM on March 22. However, some travelers have reported facing issues if their flights are after midnight, and it is suggested to check in before the stamp date if possible to avoid complications.

First day overstaying is free of charge ( at least for me was like that) normally they do like that… bkk immigration… but better not coz more annoying then paying isto wait at the line there … takes forever

why are the Admin not speaking to these people? Admin decide who can join the group. I'm sure that they can decide if someone isn't worthy of being in the group because of their behaviour toward others. Another rule, besides the current two, should be introduced, focusing on member behaviour towards other members. I joined a handful of Thailand related groups about a month ago. After my first two posts in two of the groups, that received a lot of comments, I decided to leave those two groups because far too many comments were negative and also focused on advice that I wasn't seeking.

Yes, it looks to me that all you're pointing out is that you think that the original poster is stupid. It might seem like it to you, if you're very experienced in all these things, but many are new or relatively new to these matters and personally, my view is to be tactful. Yes, before you say it, I remember my question that you responded to, but that wasn't being mean, but a 'prompter' for future.

Sometimes people have constraints like medical appointments, and the only stupid people are the ones that are afraid to ask questions that may seem obvious. I t is easier to ask then to get in trouble with immigration due to an overstay. But sadly there are 2 many mean spirited farang in Thailand which causes people not to ask questions though they may appear stupid. I do not judge you to be one of these people but they are on this thread. Small petty people.

You can always go to imigration explain the situation and maybe they can make an extension based on your ticket up to 7 days.

The date that you most leave by is stamped in your passport. Just look at the date, so you can go through exit immigration anytime on that day. Or if after midnight then not usually a problem.

Why? I hate red eye flights. Better to fly out during the day or at least earlier in the day than that.

it works for me.

I take a Valium. Sleep the whole way, wake up in Europe at 7am feeling fine and not needing to adjust to the new time zones.

Been great for me.

Yes the alternative is to fly out at midday and stay awake the whole time - which I also do sometimes - I can sit and watch movies all day so plane journeys are easy for me 😊

beg to differ... it stays immagration official's discretion.. during Covid they started with letters from our embassy saying we couldn't travel. Which they told me when I arrived for my renewal. So next day I went to get my letter and rushed back immagration and they told me I am 1day late, and have to pay a fine of 500baht. I told them it was because of the new changes.. she told me flatout to pay or just go... needles to say

Immigration officers have been known to hassle people whose plane departs after midnight of their last stamped in date. (technically the next day, even though they're going through immigration on their last day)

Typically the fine is waived, but the passenger still receives the violation stamp in their passport.

I read this debated before. I never left the final day but I had an experience one time on 30 day visa exempt status. My Northwest flight suddenly canceled so, went back to a hotel . They did not stamp people in again they "cancelled" the exit stamp! This took hours for a near full B-747. Assume then the stay to last day types would then have been on overstay.

you really tried to get every last second out of your stamp. Knowing your flight out was so late, you should have applied for a 7 or 30 day extension before leaving, giving you piece of mind. Overstaying, even for one hour is never a good idea.

The airline didn't allow you to check in as though the flight was on time?

well said regarding passengers (possibly being nervous, especially when people are maybe not used to travelling overseas or dealing with immigration, Visas etc) Maybe the person asking the question could naturally have a bit of a nervous disposition, who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️

It's very unfair to belittle someone, especially when you know nothing about them. Perhaps do it with a good mate for fun.

The airside departure terminal is simply a section of the airport restricted to employees and passengers who have completed immigration checks. The idea it is some kind of no mans land is incorrect. Some people think foreign embassies are sovereign territory also. Nonsense, from the bar-stool.
