Does anyone know if you need a visa to stay one night on the Myanmar side of the Mae Sai border crossing? My husband and I want to stay in Thailand until the 24th of February. Our current stamp is until the 25th of January. If we do a border run we will get another 30 days which will give us up to the 23rd. We are thinking to stay one night in Myanmar so our stamp in Thailand would be valid until the 24th our day to leave. But we arent sure if we need a Myanmar visa to stay one night? We are Canadians. TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian couple is inquiring whether they need a visa to stay one night in Myanmar after crossing the Mae Sai border, considering their current Thai visa situation. The conversation includes advice suggesting that it's best to check dedicated Myanmar visa resources and highlights the possibility of previously being able to stay for a short time without a visa, though current rules might have changed. Additionally, there's a note about potential fines for overstaying in Thailand.

One more thing (just in case you can't stay in Myanmar overnight):

if you are flying out and your overstay is under 24 hours you will not get a fine and you will not get the BIG overstay stamp in your passport.

You just get a small thai language only stamp next to your exit stamp that says "overstay under 24 hours fine waived"..

You USED to be able to stay a few days on that myanmar border pass they issue when you stamp in to burma BUT now I think you have to go back the same day.

Post on a chiang Mai group, (because way more people up there bounce out and in at that border and someone will know the answer :)

Good Luck

I would say try to find a Myanmar Visa advice page. This page is for Thai visa and not for all other countries in the world. Good luck.
