So with the new thailand visa rules if you don't care about getting extensions you can still enter a few times a year with your usual 60 days visa-free? or just twice? What about people who frequently visit the country for just some long weekends?

(I would assume it shouldn’t affect them whatsoever but just to be sure)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The new guidelines for Thailand's visa rules indicate that frequent short-term visitors can still enter the country multiple times a year on a visa-free basis, such as for weekend trips, as long as they do not exceed 180 days annually. Immigration officers have discretion over each entry, but many users report that short visits have not been an issue. Overall, the updates primarily target those seeking extensions to prevent long-term residency without proper visas.

You can enter as many times as you want for a holiday. 4 times a year for 2 weeks for example will be fine. TAT want you to come ans spend your money here, and then go home and save up again!

The updates are for extensions and border runs to prevent long term abuse thats all

Short-term visits have never been a problem, thousands of people visit dozens of times a year.

I was referring to short-term visits, meaning staying few weeks at a time, or at most less than 60 days.

@Andrew *******
its not the same!!!

It’s for someone doing border runs to extend a stay continuously.

If you never do extensions it should be fine until you reach the 180days/year

There is no written 180 day rule
Marco ***********
It’s not written but the logical conclusion since you get tax residency with 180 days.

They want foreigners to get proper visa.

@Marco **********
tax status is another thing altogether and will not effect an Immigration decision

@Graham *****
every tourist visa e.g DTV and 6 months tourist visa are capped at 180 days for tax reasons. Also you’re not a tourist anymore if you are a tax resident.

@Marco **********
so how does the 5 year Thai Elite Tourist Visa which gives multiple 1 year entries factor in to your “capped at 180 days” argument? You are simply wrong.
Graham ******
@Marco **********
there is no such cap, get real
Tim **********
@Graham *****
yes there is, over 180 days is residency, not tourism
Graham ******
@Tim *********
you can call it what you like but there is still no such cap, if there is show me the link to an Immigration site

The 'rule' seems to require you to go back to your home country for several visits per year. With a few exceptions like no more than a total of 150 days per calendar year, etc. Even so, you are still at the mercy of the immi officer that will stamp you in.
Tim **********
@Mark ************************
where do you hear about a 150 day limit?
Graham ******
@Tim *********
You could get 60+30 then another 60 but no 30, just an "Extension Denied, 7 Days to Leave Thailand" stamp

There are no new rules only guidance for immigration officers
