Can you change a non o marriage visa to an ordinary non o visa whilst being in Thailand? thanks in advance for any advice.
Answer summary
It is generally not possible to change a Non-O Marriage visa to an Ordinary Non-O visa while remaining in Thailand. However, if you are on an extension of stay based on marriage and meet the requirements for retirement, you may be able to change the purpose of the extension upon renewal. If circumstances such as divorce occur, you could also cancel your extension based on marriage. Consulting with immigration authorities or a visa agent may provide additional options.

Terry Brown kids or marriage, you make yourself too much dependent on her and the kids. On a retirement extension, you are holding the strings

No you can't if you are on a visa but if you are on an extension of stay based on marriage then when you go for the next year's extension you can change the purpose of the extension from marriage to retirement as long as you meet the requirements for the extension based on retirement. Of course if you have reason to cancel the extension based on marriage such as having got divorced you can also do so at that time

Mick Hill You could ask your Immigration if they are willing to accept an application on the reason "retirement", even when you entered on a Non-Imm-O Family Visa.

In Pattaya, according to some agents I have questioned, this definitely is possible. On many other Immigration offices, you can only change the reason when you are nearing the end of the current 1-year extension.

Maybe you should get the service of an agent.

Just a quick note: check the .pdf visa document. It only says visa-type Non-Imm-O.

It does NOT mention the reason anymore, like the old visa-stickers in the passport did, in the days of old . . Yet, of course you must be able to fulfill the financial and other requirements to that visa type

normally the 1st extension of stay must be for the reason the Non-O was issued. It might be easier just to hop over to a nearby country and apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement when the current visa is running out
