TLDR : Answer Summary
The confusion around converting a Special Tourist Visa (STV) to a COVID Visa is common among expats. While in theory, it should be possible, strong evidence is required to prove the necessity of staying in Thailand, such as a letter from an embassy, cancelled rescheduled tickets, or evidence of no available flights home. One user shared conflicting information from an immigration hotline, leaving many unsure about the process.

I called hotline 1178 (immirgration Web) a month ago, the servicer said that I can use covid visa extend 2 months by change from my STV. Today I just call to there confirm one time; however, the anwser is uncertain. I'm so confuse.

Nice! Did officer ask some questions or require some documents?

@Lien ****
no questions, just completed the required docs and fees. First stamped as under consideration for 3 weeks and go back for the balance of the 60 days

My STV will be expired on September 25th. Could I go to extend now? Or I need to wait nearby 15 days of Sep 25th?

I'd try getting the coivd extension with enough time to fly out incase you can't get it, atleast a week before.

Yes, The first time servicer said that I can only change to Covid Visa before my current visa expired 15 days. Thanks for your advice.

In THEORY you should be able to. However, you *WILL* need to provide proof that you absolutely can not leave Thailand. Some acceptable proofs are:

-A letter from your embassy saying you can not return home

-Cancelled and *rescheduled* airline tickets PAST your "Admitted To" stamp.

- A letter from an airline saying that no flights exist to your country.

The evidence has to be very strong, and I never heard of anyone getting a 60 day extension of stay based on COVID-19 yet. If you are Canadian, the answer will be "NO".
