Hello everyone ❤️,

I have a question because my sister has a US passport and will go back to Thailand with US passport due to expired Thai passport.

Because of the family urgent travel, my sister can't get a visa in time.

And my sister has bought a three-month return ticket( I know free visa only 30 day)

I would like to ask if anyone has had this experience, the Thai immigration police will allow her to enter the country because we plan that when my sister arrives in Thailand she will go tp attend the visa.

Or the airline will allow her tp fly ?

She will bring Thailand passport and copy Thai ID card with her .

Thank you so much

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring whether their sister, who holds a US passport and an expired Thai passport, can enter Thailand without obtaining a visa due to urgent travel needs. Although the official visa-free stay for US passport holders is 30 days, some commenters suggest that as a Thai citizen, entering on an expired Thai passport should not pose a problem. They advise that she should present her Thai passport at immigration upon arrival in Thailand and apply for renewal of her Thai passport while in the country.

From October 1, 45 day entry visa exempt she can apply for a new Thai passport in country I'm pretty sure

The final airline SHOULD allow her with the expired Thai passport, as she is returning home. You may need to use the USA passport before the last flight though.

she can use the American passport all the way until the plane lands in Thailand then just present the Thai passport to immigration

as long as they don't ask for proof of outward travel, I believe.

Expired Thai passport will work for entry but as she has a US passport.... what is the issue. On the latter she will get now 45 days. Then once in country... renew thai passport. But expired thai passport will be good for entry into Thai.

The issue is she wants to stay for 3 months. If she enters on a visa exempt she’d get 45 days (+30) which wouldn’t get her the time needed.

As stated it’s not an issue entering on an expired Thai passport. It just that she would have to renew it while here to be able to leave.

but as i said entering on an expired thai passport will not be an issue. Also it will not take 45 + 30 if arriving on US passport to renew the Thai one.. but enter on expired thia for sure!

she will stay 3 month ka

Just show her Thai passport at immigration even though it's expired. She can then renew that passport whilst inside Thailand. When traveling back to USA leave Thailand on Thai passport & enter USA on American passport

other questions if you know .

Actually my sister in Thai passport is a woman but after she applied for citizenship in the US she can change to a man and my sister's appearance is now a man but has a medical certificate .

Will this be a problem for entering the country? Because the laws of Thailand still do not accept gender change.

@Sinsupa *******
I really don't know. As far as I'm aware if you were born female in Thailand you remain female so her Thai passport and Thai ID will show her as female. She just needs to accept being female for a while.

yes hopefully the Thai laws will change soon

Thank you so much 😊

Thai citizens can enter Thailand with an expired passport. There would be no requirement for a return or onward ticket as they are Thai citizens.

@Sinsupa *******
yes. That is correct. US passport to exit the US, expired Thai passport to enter Thailand. Renew passport and exit Thailand with new passport and enter the US with her US passport. If questioned by airline staff about not having a return or onward ticket just show them her Thai passport. Irrelevant that it’s expired. They don’t need an onward ticket.

OK, this is not something I have experience of. I could only guess that it wouldn’t be an issue. There are many trans people here. Perhaps others with direct experience could advise.

wow thank you sir. I will tell her

To exit she would need to renew her Thai passport. She would not be able to leave on a US passport that she didn’t use to enter.
Shayne **********
I'm pretty sure Thai people can enter on an expired Thai passport.
