Hey all, my husband and i are thinking of moving back to thailand, my question is can my partner work in Thailand without a degree? He works in aviation currently and could he possibly work at bkk airport? Or is that not possible because of the restricted jobs for foreigners? We can get him a visa based on marriage etc just wanted to know about him working in Thailand. Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around a query about whether a partner can work in Thailand's aviation industry without a degree, particularly at Bangkok Airport. Contributors suggest contacting airlines directly for job availability and emphasize that foreigners may face restrictions if their jobs could be filled by Thais. It is noted that while jobs at the check-in desk may be challenging, roles in aircraft maintenance might be accessible. Clear communication of his qualifications and willingness to accept a lower salary are mentioned as potential advantages.

Any good news for him?

He can certainly get a job working in "aviation", however not working at a check-in desk. Sevicing and maintence of aircraft, yes. A friend of mine from the UK works for the RTA overseeing sevicing of aircraft. Good luck!

Sure he can. If he can except low salary.

It's all about what we write in the job description

The problem is that the myth of "not a job a Thai can do" is perpetuated by incorrect information. I just want people to be fully informed with the correct info.

no need to be so pedantic. I'm sure the OP got my drift.

There is no such law ! There are however prohibited professions, but that only lists about 40 jobs.

It's the Thai laws of foreigners undertaking work that a Thai can do, is the greatest problem

Is he fluent in Thai?

Not a chance in hell. Working at check-in and operations where??. I guess before he worked in this capacity in the UK. The problem is (as he should know) that Airlines recruit in house and send staff where needed on a lowest cost basis.

As far as I know, normally foreigners are much more expensive for a company due their work permits and minimum salary for their Visa/Extension of Stay. But if he have special skills, does not need the higher salary for the Visa, I would say give it a go. Send his CV to the airline companies with a nice letter that he is willing to work for them.

He has experience in working in check in desks/operations. I dont think he can teach English because he has no degree. My partner is from uk. He thought about if he could be successful in getting a job with Emirates or Qatar airways for example but still unsure if they hire Thai people and not foreigners ?

Gareth Youaintseenmeright Davies but not legal. Universities are, however different.

To work for emirates or qatar airways or any other airline, he needs to apply online on airlines career web page. They do prefer and recruit people eligible to work in thailand and meeting their requirements if any vacancy or available position.

What are his qualifications in the aviation industry or teaching?
Robert *******
An job in aviation without degree, now the question is what does he like to do for work. Obvious not an Airline pilot. Best thing to do is contact the BKK airports and ask if there is a job available for him, They can also directly tell if he is allowed to take the job or not.
Robert ********
Suggest you make him reach out directly and you do not ask on his behalf.
