Hey guys, i live in europe with my husband (Uk citizen) and eventually we want to settle in Thailand. We are married and aware he can get a non O based on marriage and have the 400k in a bank account for the yearly extension. My question is about him working legally in Thailand, unfortunately he doesnt have a degree. Officially Qualified in airline operations/ticketing, what would his options be in terms of working ? Appreciate any good advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses concerns of a UK citizen, married to a Thai national, about his options for working legally in Thailand without a degree, notably considering the Non-O visa. The response suggests multiple avenues for work, including opportunities in tourism and travel, online teaching, and the possibility of starting a business. It emphasizes that while jobs are limited for foreigners without degrees, they may be available if they possess specialized skills that are not readily available among Thai nationals. The legality of working for an airline would depend on the employer's ability to justify their need for a foreign worker over a Thai candidate.

Teaching online but he will need experience to find a good position

If he is good with people and has a travel industry back ground there a numerous jobs in tourism in Samui, Phuket. There is also the booming airports. He can do a TEFL online and that will allow him to teach also.

I am not sure I recommend it, but... I have seen people work here (not legall) while attending school to get a degree. I am sure the degree is easy and cheap to get - when/if your husbands wants. Many people teach illegally -- not that I recommend it.

If he has good command on GDS and can do ticketing & stuff then the best option would be setting up a small business on your name since you are Thai Citizen. Travel industry has a lot of potential in Thailand. He can make a website and offer tickets, hotels, tours to tourist coming from UK/Ireland.

Ask him to inbox me if he needs more information.

, we keep looking on there for positions to get a general feel of whats out there. What about if he has a job offer from an airline for a position he is qualified to do, would that suffice to work legally in Thailand?

Yea i wasnt sure about how far the "off limits" went. I have read the banned occupations for foreigners and i wasnt sure what category airlines fell under because the list just summised jobs without detail.
Paul **********
Yes. Because a Thai person can do the job.

Thai labour law favours Thai people and as such anything a Thai person can do is generally off limits to foreigners.

Yes i see what you mean, maybe that will be a difficult one to justify.
Paul **********
Work Permits are issued with Company, job description and location being specified on the document.
Paul **********
Yes. But it will be incumbent on the Airline to justify his work permit to the Labour Department.
Paul **********
Jobs are available for foreigners without a degree but they must have specialist skills which a Thai person may not have. The potential employer will need to justify his employment to the Labour Department and show that a Thai person cannot do the job.

Recommend a search on jobsdb.com to see what's available and what's suitable and then proceed to do a course study (Diploma / Certification) in the UK itself before applying.

Mainly school teaching is what's available in thailand most other occupations are banned.

What do SME mean?

@Mike ******
you said banned. That’s ald poorly advice.
Mike *******
Yes I did not expand on teaching opportunities I was only suggesting openings.
Lloyd ********
Poor advice, to legally teach you need a degree, and "most" other occupations are not banned, you just need to be an SME.
