Can my American father apply for a Non-O family visa through my Thai wife and child?

Hello, I'm on a nonO extension based on Thai wife and child. My American father is going to be moving in with us. I read that it is theoretically possible for him to also get a nonO family visa through these family relationships but I have my doubts. Has anyone done something like that?

I know the different paperwork and financial requirements of the different visas/extensions, but for anyone who has experience with both extension types, would retirement based extensions be easier or more difficult in terms of queues and potential additional evidence requests (in Chiang Mai)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of their American father obtaining a Non-O family visa based on family relationships, while expressing doubts about the process. Commenters suggest that it may be better for the father to apply for a Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa in the US due to its benefits, including longer stay terms and less immediate paperwork. Others mention that retirement-based extensions might require less documentation, although agencies may charge for assistance.

Retirement would be easier with less paperwork’s and show money 8,00,000 bath in the account for two months. Agencies can do without showing your own money. But they will change for that.

It would be WAY better for your father to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa from one of the 4 thai consulates in the US that sell them BEFORE he wings his way here.

That visa is good for unlimited entries for the year validity, every entry gets you stamped in for a whole new year and he would show proof of funds by using his money in his bank in the US not here.

IF he used that visa correctly he'd get almost 2 years of stay out of a visa that is valid for one year.

It's the way to go.

Here's the thai consulate in Los Angeles' requirements for the O-A (Long Stay) visa

I tried getting him to do this but, unfortunately, it didn't work out in time. He's going to end up coming initially on a visa exempt stamp. We will probably work with an agent in CM to make sure it all runs smoothly. Open to agent recommendations in CM.
