Can I use my father's bank account as proof of funds for my Thai visa application?

Can a direct relative's bank account be your proof of fund ?

Ex : Dad has more than 500kTHB and "sponsors" his son by showing his bank statements. I've understood this is possible through some posts here but I wonder if I got it all wrong. Seems nice, but almost too nice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, using a direct relative's bank account can be accepted as proof of funds for a visa application, but you must provide documentation to prove your relationship, such as a birth certificate. Acceptance varies by embassy; some may approve it while others may not even check the names. It's advisable to contact the specific embassy where you plan to apply for clarification.

If you can provide documented proof if relationship sure.

Its highly dependent where you apply

Anonymous participant 676 That's a good point. I imagine some sort of letter would help too like " Mr/Mrs (x) the [relative's link] certify that the money is directly accesible to mr/ms (y ) in case of any need or emergency and I vow to financially support them" something like that ?

Try emailing the embassy you're applying at and ask. Some might allow and some won't.

the amount required is pretty huge for young people that just started their working journey you know. You can't accumulate much from the get go. In my understanding, this is mainly to prove you're capable of handling emergencies. So nothing wrong with having a support system for difficult times and still being responsible for your own day to day life with work. Getting mommy, daddy or brother to transfer money quickly for a visa is a bit more dishonnest than admitting that simple fact, I think. My opinion ๐Ÿ˜„
