I have a Non o retirement visa. Can I let my balance drop below 800k temporarily, but still above 400k? Emergency repairs required.I was granted the visa in October '24 and renewed it in 2025.
Answer summary
The user inquired whether they can temporarily drop their bank account balance below 800,000 baht while maintaining above 400,000 baht due to emergency repairs. Responses indicated that if they are in the first three months after obtaining their visa extension, they must maintain 800,000 baht. After this period, they can drop to 400,000 baht temporarily, but must return to 800,000 baht two months prior to their next visa extension application. Additionally, it's important to check the specific rules of the local immigration office, which may vary.

My agent told me to keep it above the 800k for six months before applying for the renewal.
Its situations like this why you need to just forget about that 800K and have additional money and savings in a separate account. Every immigration office has their own rules regarding that money regardless of what official paperwork says. Same goes for where it says you can have either 800K or 65K monthly income. Some offices want both, and its absolutely useless to argue with them. So make very sure you understand what your immigration office wants and don't miscalculculate by even one day if you touch that money.
Depends on when in October your extension date is. You need your account to be at 800,000 for 2 full months before you're allowed to apply for the extension. So if your extension date is October 1st, and you dropped your balance down right now, it's impossible for you to bring it back up for 2 full months before you apply for the next extension. If it's late October, you could theoretically drop it for a couple weeks before you'd need to get it back up.
Willism69_ this also depends on your immigration office, some immigration offices want to see 800k baht in your bank for 3 months when you apply for all but the 1st extension of stay so check with your immigration office before doing anything
If you are on a 12 month extension, the rules are to maintain the 800,000 for 3 months after the extensionis issued, then never let the amount drop below 400,000 and returning to 800,000 two months before your next extension. So you have about 6 or 7 months where the amount can reduce to 400,000.
Willism69_ This is Thailand 🤷♂️. How about the rule where a marriage non-O requires only 400,000 baht deposited in the bank, as opposed to a retirement non-O requiring 800,000? I can never understand that one 🤣
Depends if you’re on the 12 month extension already and when .. if as you say you’re on non o then you cannot let it drop below 800k if it’s still seasoning
Tim Gill The OP needs to use the correct terminology as he was on a Non-O Visa 2 years ago but from Oct-2024 has been on Extensions of Stay, not a visa
