Hello!  Wondering if there is any way to change the effective dates of a non-o retirement visa... mine currently will expire on 29 Dec - I plan to renew it towards the end of November, within the 45 day window, however, I see this being a problem every year as I typically travel back to the states for the winter holidays.  If I renew it in November, will it then expire the following November, or will it still be December?  Ideally, I would like to be able to renew it in October beginning in 2026.  Thank you in advance for any advice!

What date does your passport expire? There is a way to "massage" the extension expiry to match your passport expiry

dont u need to have a new passport when your passport have less den 6mths validity and u do need to transfer your nonO stamp to the new passport?

When you apply for an extension, it is granted for 12 months from the expiry of the current extension OR up until the expiry of the passport. It cannot be transferred to a new passport

Yes, when the extension is transferred to the new passport you will not get the lost months back, the new shorter expiry date is retained

the stamp of extension CAN be transferred to a new passport i have done it before at CW immigration when I present both my passports

The extension stamp is ALWAYS transfered to the new passport, so is the entry stamp.

The only way to change the extension date is to leave without a re-entry permit, and to start the whole process from scratch when you return

Only way is to leave without a re-entry permit which will cancel your extension. And then you would need to start over from scratch with a new 90 day non-O visa, and then applying for the 1-year extension afterwards.

Otherwise one way that you can't really plan is that if you apply for ab extension and your passport has less than a year of validity left, your extension will only run until your passport expiration date.
