Hi, I have a question about the dependent visa for a non-o retirement visa. My husband qualifies for the retirement visa. Since we can't get the dependent visa until he gets his extension, should my daughter and I enter on a tourist visa and hope to convert to a non-o dependent while in Thailand? Or do we have to leave the country to get the initial 90 day non-o dependent visa? Thanks so much!

You cannot get a trailing spouse visa inside of Thailand. No immigration office will let you convert to a non-O based on a spousal retirement visa. You either have to get it from the embassy (don't know of any that still offer this), or you don't get it at all.

SOME embassies might allow you to get a non-O trailing spouse visa if the primary person gets a non-OA visa, but not a non-O.

Our daughter is 7. I just read that you can actually do it while he has his initial non-o. We are from the US.

We plan on her attending school but I did reach out to a school and they were full and they didn't provide a visa. My main concern is getting her registered to a school in time. I do appreciate your help. I'm just surprised that she wouldn't be able to qualify as she is truly a dependent, lol.

you'd need to clarify with them that they will issue Non-O dependant visas to both of you first, but assuming they will then yes that's how you would do it. You should be OK but I'm not sure about your daughter so you might need to find another route for her such as getting an ED visa if she'll attend school

Thank you, I've read them. So to my understanding, in order for me and my daughter to be a dependent, we need a non-oa or ox for my husband. What is the process then? Do we apply immediately after he gets accepted?

I don't believe any of the embassies or consulates in the US will sell a trailing spouse visa. I don't know anything about dependant visas for children under a retirement visa unfortunately.
