Hello!

I am a university student holding a non-imm ED visa and it is expiring at the end of this month. And I have not extended the 60 days (Covid-19) extension yet.

I have a few questions regarding visa type conversion;

(1) can I convert my visa type from ED (could also be on 60 days extension) to Non- Imm type B (work visa) without going out of the country?

(2)if yes, is that legally allowed to do so? [It would be great if thereโ€™s a law reference, The name of the law would work]

Thank you for your help and very much appreciated. ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
A university student with a non-immigrant ED visa expiring soon inquires about converting their visa to a Non-Immigrant B work visa. Response indicates that conversion may be possible without leaving Thailand, contingent on new employer support and local immigration office policies. It is crucial to consult with the immigration office for specific procedures and requirements, especially given the context of COVID-19.

If you can get Non-B extension/visa from ED extension in-country depends on your new employer (if they can provide all required documents for the in-coutry process), you, and the local immigration office. You need to talk with them.

>1) can I convert my visa type from ED (could also be on 60 days extension)

You can go from an ED extension to a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. You will take a letter from your school saying you are no longer studying, and cancel your current extension of stay. You will then apply for a new 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19.

To go from an ED visa/ extension of stay based on studying OR an 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 will be between you and the immigration office.

The immigration laws are established in Thai from either announcements in the Royal Gazette or Police Orders.

Each immigration office is free to establish their own policy
