Can I still apply for the COVID-19 extension after my appointment on January 28th, considering the January 25th deadline?

I’m here in Chonburi and I’m wanting to see if I can get the COVID-19 extension. I waited in line from early morning. I have all my papers except for the form that says anything about the COVID -19 extension.

I asked for the form and it was given to me by the information person. But he wrote on the top of my Application for Extension “28 Jan 08:30” and waved me away.

When I mentioned that the date of 25 Jan was the last day to apply, he still waved me away. The gentleman at the door when leaving looked and also said to come back on the 28th. I’m not too sure that he understood my concern about the date of the 25th though.

My current status is Visa Exempt and I’ve already done the 30-day extension from my first 30-day exempt status. My passport is stamped for 30 Jan.

Any advise? I’m afraid if I wait until the 28th then they’ll say the time has already passed for the Covid extension. He returned all my paperwork to me and the only thing different is his handwriting of the date and time that I mentioned. No real record that shows that I was here today at all. Very concerning.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat in Chonburi is concerned about the timing of their COVID-19 extension application at the Jomtien Immigration Office, as they were instructed to return on January 28th, which is after the January 25th deadline to apply. They have a visa exempt status with a current stamp valid until January 30. Other community members shared similar experiences, suggesting that delays are common and advising persistence in seeking clarity from immigration officials. The consensus is to follow the given date, but there is uncertainty about whether the extension program will continue beyond January 25.

Sounds like this is a Jomtien office thing only. So I'm closing comments seeing as no one is gonna hash out what it was over the weekend. I'd suggest going there Monday (especially if there is no announcement that the program is continued) and seeing what's what

We are done,

2 people I know have had the same experience in the last couple of days, they were told to come back

January.

They do this all the time at jomtien, make you queue up for hours and then tell you to come back at a later date

I seem to recall there were reports on here last year that if jomtien immigration was busy they were telling people to come back when they had 3 days left. Wonder if that's what's happening here?

that's what I thought too 🙂 BUT with the current covid extension program running out on the 25th doesn't really make sense for him to go after that date (if it's not being continued past then) 🙁

That is the strangest story I've read in a while. Unless who ever you dealt with knows that the covid program IS going to continue another 60 days after it runs out this coming Tuesday I got no idea why they'd do it

I'd show up monday and see what's what.

Maybe that's what I'll do. The information desk person is the one writing that date and gesturing me away. He's the same one that sent me away when I went to apply for my 30-day extension, even though I had everything needed with me that day.

I only saw him and the gentleman at the door. Again, the gentleman at the door didn't understand me, I believe. My fault, not his.

Had I been able to see an officer then I'm pretty sure that I would not be in this situation. Just like last time.

>My passport is stamped for 30 Jan

What is this stamp? And when was the stamp put in your passport? Can you show a picture?

@Benjamin *****
The stamp that says 30 Jan was put on when I applied for a 30-day extension before my initial 30-day visa exempt status date. I can post a picture if that’s not clear. Let me know. US passport and citizen, if that matters and wasn’t mentioned before.

@Dave *****
That is the date your current stamp runs out.

IF you're wanting to get a covid extension as it sits now (seeing as they have NOT extended that program) you do it before the 25th of Jan or you don't get one 😮

that’s exactly the reason I made this post. I’m concerned that if I go back and, seemingly going to have to make somewhat of a fuss to get anyone to listen, it’s an optional extension. So they could take my $1900 and deny the extension anyway. Not in a great position here.

@Dave *****
they aren't gonna take your money and deny you the extension, they'll just say no you can't have it and send you away.

okay, but still the concern about the denial since I may have to be assertive just to get someone to listen. Not so good.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I came back home but probably should have done as Robert suggested. It just seems to be difficult to get anyone to actually listen without being forceful or maybe getting in trouble.

Just dont lose that paper on which he wrote 28th Jan. Make a note of when you got the paper. And go to the office on 28th. 🙂

The last date you can apply for an Extension of Stay based on unable to travel is 25 Jan.

Go back and insist to see an Immigration Officer to apply for this Extension of Stay.

Are you at Jomtien Pattaya?

Just follow their instructions

Take the papers given you back on the 28th at 8:30am...

the ending date of the 25th is my concern.

@Dave *****
that I understand...and the Thai Immigration office does too.

Obviously they are swamped and spacing out the work. They wrote time and date for you to appear. Do it.

But as you are worried...

Suggest you go back again and ask one more time....and take a Thai friend along with you if you can.

At this time...there is nothing more anyone can do or say... March on in and ask one more time...Good Luck.

@James *******
in your opinion is giving Dave a return date of 28 any indication that the covid extension will be continuing past jan 25 ???( or has this been done before when the Immigration office is very busy )
