Can I start my DTV visa application before my training date?

Apr 29, 2026
Does the start of DTV visa have to start from the date of training or it can start from whenever I include on the application? For example, there is a program I am interested in starting in October but I want to be in Thailand from June. How would that work?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) must be applied for with the start date aligning with your intended training program in Thailand. The visa activation starts from the date of issue, not the date you enter Thailand. Applying for a DTV visa too early, such as several months before your training begins, is unlikely to be approved. You cannot apply for the DTV visa while already in Thailand, and applications must be submitted at a Thai consulate outside Thailand. It's suggested that if your intent is to stay in Thailand for a meditation program or similar for six months, you might consider obtaining a METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) instead, particularly since you are already within Thailand's borders.

It starts from the day it is issued. You can't apply more than 3 months in advance. You can't get a DTV just to come for a holiday, you apply for a purpose and if you want to apply under soft power and not work remotely from Thailand it's important that your soft power activity starts close to the dates you apply

Yes, you can apply online, but there are conditions you need to read before applying for the visa πŸ˜…. There are also special warnings stating that you cannot apply from Thailand.

you can't apply for a dtv inside Thailand no matter your history. You can only apply at a Thai consulate and there aren't any in Thailand

Except the eVisa website does explicitly remind you that you can not apply from within Thailand and that you must physically be within the jurisdiction of the consular office you are applying to.

Doubtful that you will be approved for the DTV visa with that plan.

That's too many months of delay from your arrival into Thailand.

A month from start is reasonable to allow time to get settled in with housing.

Is this for Muay Thai training?

IF so, how many months of training are you going to sign up for?

What is your passport nation?

Where are you now?

Where do you plan on submitting the DTV visa application?

Anonymous participant Malaysia not good...

And there's no DTV visa for meditation...

If you are Only going to be in Thailand 6 months, apply for the METV multiple entry tourist visa in your home country before you go to Thailand. With planning it can get you up to 8 months stay in Thailand with 2 simple BORDER BOUNCES.

In rereading your post, you are already in Thailand.

What is your passport nation...???

How long are you REALLY PLANNING on staying in Thailand?

What's your recent 12 months history of being in Thailand?

is there a list with prices kf all places that qualify for DTV soft power? What's the minimum cost I should expect? Passport is Egyptian. I hav done a border run already in last 12 months so I am on my last few weeks now and I don't think I'll get another tourist visa. I have been in Thailand 170 days in last 12 months and got ten days left. I want to have the freedom to come and go from Thailand without worrying about visa plus I want to attend the six months meditation program

Suggest you chat with them and sign up for a course of 6 months or more... 🚫 NOT less than 6.

Then use an experienced Visa Run service to take you to Vientiane Laos. Apply for the DTV visa using the Evisa online application system when you are in Vientiane Laos. Stay in Laos UNTIL the decision is known. You pay for the DTV visa fee in person at the Thai Embassy in Vientiane. That Embassy might set an interview appointment. Be prepared to show PROOF of your current bank account balance using your phone. As they often ask to see if.

Use the search πŸ” tool top of the forum page

ENTER... Vientiane DTV

CLICK on it and all posts about getting the DTV visa in Vientiane will Pop Up to read the posts and experiences of others.

so I'm assuming that's after it's processed and issued? Do they ask about entry date at all?

Anonymous participant yeah, they ask you for your intended time to arrive in Thailand. Once the visa is issued, though, you are not kept to that date.
