When using monthly deposits, must the money be sent directly to the Thai bank from the source (example: Social Security or rental income) to prove that it's income, or could I simply send monthly amounts from my US bank account?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can send monthly amounts from your US bank account to prove your income for Thai visa requirements. It's generally acceptable as long as the transfers are labeled as international. Some immigration officers may request proof of income sources, such as Social Security statements, but it usually doesn’t matter where the funds originate.

I have my social security sent directly to my Thai bank account, which works perfectly. I got sick of using Wise and having to wait at times for the money. You just have to make sure to fill out and send back the “proof of life” socially security form they send you every now and then.

My budget $ from US goes to wife account. My Visa & other special stuff comes from multiple sources including from within Thailand, go to my account. I don’t think they care where the source money is from.

If you’re on any kind of visa that requires monthly transfers to your Thai bank account, they absolutely do care. Your qualifying transfers must be foreign sourced.

For other visas, such as the LTR visa, There’s no need to show monthly transfers.

And mixing & matching is certainly fine, providing the foreign sourced portion of your income meets the required amount (e.g., 40k baht or 65k baht).

well no issues with marriage visa/extensions and doubt with retirement, all money routed within Thailand. I don’t know LTR or O-A.

maybe because I been here so long, they don’t care anymore.

I send bank to bank via Wise, to cut out any bank charges

please explain. I send money from my bank to Wise then from Wise to Thai bank and it cost to convert then send. Am I doing it wrong?

That's exactly what I do. With many bank to bank transfers both the sending and receiving banks will charge a fee on international transactions as well as a poor exchange rate. Wise charges only the one transfer fee, and has a competitive exchange rate. Transfer to Bangkok Bank and mark the transfer as "funds for longstay in Thailand" and the transaction is noted as an international transfer which keeps immigration happy

what about converting AUD to Baht. Cost me over $30 last transfer. I'm building a house so big cash.

I don't know about that. I wouldn't be transferring too much these days as you'll be hit up for income tax on what you bring in. I just transfer pension which is exempt from Thai taxation

Sending it from your US bank is fine. It just needs to show as an international transfer. There have been a few scattered reports of immigration officers asking for proof of where the money/income is coming from, but for that you could just show your social security statement, or something along those lines.

I think the problem some people have is using third party transfer services that move the money internally to Thailand then transfer to you from within Thailand
