Greetings….I will be arriving in Thailand on Jan 12 and then leaving for Cambodia on Jan 15 . I plan to return to Thailand on January 23 for two months. Can I enter on January 12 on the exempt visa and then use a 60 day visa for my entry on January 23. If I get the 60 day visa I understand I can only enter once. Thanks for any help you can provide.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to enter Thailand on January 12 on an exempt visa and return on January 23 with a 60-day visa. Advice includes activating the 60-day tourist visa upon first entry and obtaining a re-entry permit while departing to Cambodia, ensuring a full two months stay in Thailand with a potential extension required for the last 30 days.

I would let them activate the 60-day tourist visa on first entry, then get a re-entry permit at the airport on your departure to Cambodia. That allows you to come back into Thailand on the visa, but does not extend the original departure date. To make the full two months in Thailand, you’ll then need to get a 30-day extension at an Immigration office.

you could get a re-entry permit as you're only gone for 3 days, single re-entry at the immigration office is 1000baht

If you have that tourist visa issued BEFORE you come to thailand the first time there's a really good chance that the officers at passport control will make you use it when you enter the first time.

In fact IF it's an eVisa <- the PDF that you got from a thai consulate in your country before you came here, they will automatically stamp you in on it and if they don't it will be voided.

If it's a sticker visa you could ASK the officer if you can stamp in visa exempt and show them your flight out and back to prove you're only here a few days before you leave and don't want to waste the tourist visa on this entry.

It would totally be up to that officer though and most people are required to use the visa when they stamp in.
