Can I reenter Thailand on a visa exempt entry if my Tourist Visa application is rejected after leaving for Vientiane?

Thanks to all for the advice on 30 day visa exempt entry and tourist visa.

If I go to Vientiane to apply for a Thai Tourist Visa while on my 30 day extension and for some reason the tourist visa is rejected, can I reenter Thailand on my visa exempt entry extension?

I don't have a lot of stuff, but I'd like to leave my gear in my apartment while making the visa run.

Also, I've heard of people doing visa runs to Myanmar by bike. Is that an option for me either to extend my 30 day exempt or to get a Tourist Visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation covers the implications of applying for a Thai Tourist Visa while on a 30-day visa-exempt entry and the conditions surrounding visa reentry. It highlights that if a tourist visa is rejected while in Vientiane, the individual could still reenter Thailand on a new 30-day visa-exempt entry stamp, though the original stamp would no longer be valid. However, there are limits on the number of visa-exempt entries allowed per calendar year. The discussion also mentions the option of making a visa run to Myanmar.

Mark ....Biff has answered your question. And may I add...if you plan to stay in Thailand get the correct visa for your stay.

Also...as you apparently have a successful business background, visit the fine universities in Chiang Mai. There may be an opportunity for you as a Professor...and collaborate with you on your Vegan thoughts.

And yes...you could do visa run to Myanmar border...but limited to two exempt land crossings per calendar year Good Luck.

James Miller shipped a road bicycle for bicycle touring. I shipped it instead of baggage as I had stops in Toronto and London before even deciding to come here. Didn’t want to try to organize carrying my bicycle as baggage to each place. A US company called BikeFlights ships bicycles here regularly.

what kind of BIKE did you ship to Thailand? A motorbike or mountain bicycle bike?

why is your bike in customs?

not visa related but you'll probably be needing 10 visas before (If ever) your bike is registered here. I suspect you never had good advice before you shipped it here.

Mark Winstein stop bye and introduce yourself to Chiang Mai U. Great U. And when back in US...get yourself an O-A visa...gets you up to two years stay in Thailand. But again, no work permitted.

Search O-A USA in the search box on top of forum. Good Luck🍀

- I have been thinking about that. Great suggestion. Right now, main goal is to get fit here then head back to the states. Not a visa issue, but my bike has been stuck in Bangkok customs for the past 10 days lol.

When you leave the country your 30 day visa exempt stamp is finished. It is no longer valid. If you enter the country again without a visa, you will get another 30 day visa exempt stamp. These are limited to two per calendar year by land border crossing.
Biff *******
You can indeed, yes. You should however be aware that staying in Thailand long term with either visa exempt entries, or tourist visas, is not going to be an option. At some point you will be questioned at a border and eventually denied entry.

- if I just get a second 30 day visa exempt entry, can I extend that one for another 30 days as well at immigration?

Is there a way to work on a laptop legally?

They are working illegally. Do not listen to those that say otherwise.

I certainly don't want to break the law. Is there a visa that allows people to work on their laptops? What are all the expats in the co-working spaces doing for their visas?
Lloyd ********
@Mark *********
Because breaking the law has implications.

My goal for my visit is learning Thai and riding my bike. I appreciate the tip. Could you please explain why you brought this up?
