Back to the little issue us new South African arrivals are having: if I do a border run to Vientiene or another city and I am denied a new 90 day tourist visa, would I be able to get a 30 day visa exemption instead?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of obtaining a 30-day visa exemption if denied a new 90-day tourist visa after executing a border run to Vientiane or another city. The comments indicate that it may depend on prior border runs and visa usage, suggesting caution regarding the number of entries within a calendar year.

Remember a single entry tourist visa is valid for 90 days <-meaning you have that long to enter thailand and get stamped in for 60 days like people do on tourist visas ;)

Thanks Todd. I think that if I can buy myself another 90 days in total I should be able to figure something out by then.

It depends if you already did border runs. You can enter twice a calendar year using the Visa Exempt Entry.

Then IF you were denied the tourist visa from the consulate you could get into the country on a 30 day visa exempt entry by land.

No border runs yet, I only arrived in June with the Thai letter in my visa saying that I need to return to SA to change my visa.
