Has anyone opened a Thai bank account with a DTV visa?
I'm in Chiang Mai, but I like other areas too.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among community members indicates that opening a Thai bank account with a DTV visa is highly challenging, if not impossible. Several comments highlight that banks have stopped allowing accounts to be opened under tourist visas, including the DTV. Users recommend considering a genuine long-term visa for banking purposes, as the DTV visa does not permit business transactions with Thai clients. Alternatives to traditional accounts, such as using services like Truemoney or opening accounts in nearby countries like Cambodia or Hong Kong, are suggested.
You need a genuine long term visa, to open and hold a Thai bankaccount, not a tourist visa like DTV.
So change your visa if Thai bankaccount is a must for you.
But since DTV don’t allow you to business with Thai clients, you only need a bankaccount in the country where your customers are, so they don’t need need to pay international transfers to pay you.
They only open for certain countries who have strong passport. And no US is not among them. I talk about UAE and some countries in EU who they let to open. Those people who they don’t let open or have being blocked is from countries with weak passport and sometimes low GDP per capita. I don’t make this up I heard that of a my Thai girlfriend who have more information about that.
Anonymous participant 592 For how long... Here is the real question. BKK Bank account holders had the same speech months ago when most people were refused with other banks.
Anonymous participant 558 the further from tourist spots the easier it is to maintain a bank account here, same with vehicle registration and same with everything.....
Anonymous participant 972 Probably... but you'll need to hope this branch doesn't get flooded with DTV holders who were already rejected by nearly every other bank. And on top of that, the headquarters would have to stay flexible to avoid another Bangkok Bank-style disaster. Good luck.
