TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry revolves around obtaining an ED visa in Chiang Mai and whether alternatives to studying the Thai language are available. Several suggestions were made, including various languages, self-defense courses, and university degree programs. Participants shared experiences of friends who studied languages like French and Japanese, as well as Muay Thai, indicating that any approved course can qualify for the ED visa, affirming the importance of MOE approval for the programs.

I'm thinking I might try self defence. Always a good skill to have.

Most people who don't study a language use that self defense school run by Jet up there.

you can study any language that's not your native language that a school is approved by the MOE to study.

I've had friends on Ed visas for studying French, Japanese, any university degree, Muay Thai. All depends on whether the school/course meets the requirements.

No idea. I've had friends who've done it. Maybe someone in this group will know if it's still possible.

University courses taught in English abound. It costs about $1000 a year to work toward a diploma. Considering the cost of other courses, or border runs on a METV it's a bargain. Not to mention the amazing things you can learn. And throw in learning Thai in that tuitiocn.
