Can I get two tourist visas in a single calendar year in Thailand, and is the calculation based on the calendar year?

I understand that it’s possible to get two tourist visas per year without much trouble. Am I right in thinking that the year is calculated as a calendar year - so two tourist visas between January and December of a particular year?

If this is the case then could I get a tourist visa from September 2025 to December 2025 (including 30 day extension) and then two consecutive tourist visas from January 2026 to May 2026?

Do we get a reset every January?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires whether two tourist visas can be obtained in a calendar year and if the year is strictly defined as January to December. They wonder if they can apply for a tourist visa from September to December 2025, followed by two consecutive tourist visas from January to May 2026, seeking clarification on whether visa eligibility resets each January. Commenters indicate that while there isn't a strict limit on tourist visas set by embassies, immigration policies are tightening, and entries are monitored based on the last 365 days rather than a calendar year.

Don’t be tight and just apply for the correct visa

useless comment. What’s the “correct” visa for two trips?

they are back to back. Just get one for 6 or 12 months. It’s cheap and safe

Andrew Campbell . . . when an Immigration official checks your touristic entries, he will check your entry history within the recent 365-days period. He does NOT calculate by calendar year

very correct. Last 365 day period at any given time.

Ah ok. Thanks. That makes sense. So you can enter twice without issue within the last 365 days.

not necessarily. Every entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer you will stand in front of. A visa does not grant you right of entry

And also that extension of 30 days rings a bell when you come in again very quickly.

yes you can. You can also use and get issued a multi entry 6-months tourist visa every other year - if you just stay away from Thailand for 5 to 6 x months within the 365-days period.

Obtaining a tourist visa is really an irrelevant question.

Immigration is cracking down on people staying long-term in Thailand without long-term visas. A tourist entry (visa exempt, tourist visa) are not long-term entries, so you cannot stay in Thailand long-term. Calendar year has nothing to do with it. Many people are getting questioned and warned for simply coming in for 60 days, getting the 30 day extension, and then leaving and returning. There's almost no chance you would be able to do this 4 times consecutively.

The general rule that many immigration officers seem to use to start causing problems is 90 days within the last 180 days, and 6 of the last 12 months.

Am I missing something, is METV not an option?

@Ron *****
tourist entry is tourist entry. There have been reports of people warned they will not be allowed in again even with a multiple entry tourist visa.

Immigration Officers do not calculate anything on the spot. It is ready for them to see on their computer screens, automated. Then, their discretion, to do nothing and let you in or warn you for the next time or even worse, deny the entry.

When I applied for Yellow Book (Bangkok, Samut Phrakhan), there was a question: "How many extensions I have had over last 25 yers". Zero, the officer just nodded.

and the poster should not count on opening a bank account with a tourist visa if indeed this was part of the plan.

Great. 🙏 thanks

There is no such limit but each Embassy makes their own rules on whether or not to issue you with a visa.
