What are my options for obtaining a Non-B visa while on a tourist visa with no ability to leave Thailand due to border closures?

Warren Murray ...hijacked a post:

I am in the same situation. The way it has always worked is that you come in on a tourist visa.... wait for the paperwork from your employer to get the non b and then get a work permit.

I came in on the tourist visa to start this process and then the borders shut down and amnesty began... eventually making the tourist visa null and void with no option to leave and get the non B.

Now, with borders still closed, I have a job offer and proof of employment but cannot get the necessary visa.

If it was possible to get the visa in country... with proof of employment... that would make the most sense.

The intention here was never to remain of a tourist visa.... but the normal process was obstructed by border shutdowns and a lack of access to the process.

To be told to leave and get the relevant visa is pretty much a null and void argument as the costs are exorbitant and there is no guarantee that we would get back into the country.

I know I am stating the obvious here, but this situation is one that many teachers and people who have gainful employment offers find themselves in by no fault of their own.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around the challenges faced by expats in Thailand who entered the country on a tourist visa but are unable to switch to a Non-B visa due to border closures and the ongoing amnesty. Many express frustration over being unable to obtain the necessary visa in-country despite having job offers, highlighting the difficulties caused by the situation and the urgent need for a viable solution from Thai immigration authorities.

Many MANY people are in this situation: unable to secure an in country 90 day non-B visa because they are on amnesty and you need hard stamp days on your passport to apply at the immigration office for the non-B OR unable to go to a thai consulate in a nearby country to secure a non-B and come back :(

I would HOPE that this conundrum is not lost on the powerz-that-b here and they are coming up with a solution to allow people to process their Non-B applications in some fashion.

BUT

For now if you're on amnesty, all you can do is wait it out and see what they announce

That will be a severe setback to all the schools (and teachers) who have recruited after March 2020; from among those that are in Thailand. They all will now have to "go back" to their countries for their new NonB, and never be able to know when they can get back.Sad!

James I am in the same boat as you. Wondering whether it is worth the risk to wait and see what is announced or whether I should just go ahead and book a flight out.

I mean same boat as Warren.

I am in the same boat as both of you and had this exact question. However, the commenting was turned off of my post. Will probably just wait and hope for the best

Now you are on Amnesty to July 31.

All you can do is wait to see what Thai Immigration says in coming week...hopefully.

My apologies.... I thought it was a relevant comment to the post it was attached to. I was not asking a question or seeking advice... just stating the situation. I am unsure of what the differentiation is between hijacking a post and commenting on it.
