TLDR : Answer Summary
Several users shared their experiences regarding VAT refunds while exiting Thailand on a DTV visa. One user successfully obtained a VAT refund after purchasing a phone, indicating that the process is straightforward: you need to show your passport and provide the VAT slip at the airport's VAT desk for your refund. Other commenters have mentioned similar experiences.
I did, made a trip to KL on my 6 month run and bought a phone few days before, dtv doesn't come into it, just buy whatever it is your buying, show them your passport, they'll give you a vat slip, take to vat desk at airport and get your refund.
