Can I re-enter Thailand after extending a 60-day visa exempt at a land border?

Hi, is it true that if you've entered on the 60-days visa exempt and then extended 30 more days you have to fly out at the end, and can't just cross the land border with Laos and cross back again for another 90 days? Many thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The initial claim that a person must leave Thailand after extending their 60-day visa exempt stay for 30 additional days before returning via a land border is incorrect. Many commenters affirm that it is possible to cross back into Thailand after a short absence, although some specific border posts may have different practices.

Thanks, Bob, staying out a few days wouldn't be such a problem...I was more concerned about whether they simply wouldn't let you out at the land border, or wouldn''t let you back in again, even after a few days

You mean in Chiang Khong you normally need to wait a few days to come back? That wouldn't be a problem for me

They will let you back in 10 min later if you want, no problem, except in Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong. Be careful getting your info from clueless people.

you can leave by land. The only issue is if you have a work permit that is not properly cancelled.

that's not true. There are only 2 border crossings that are currently requiring this.

If you go across the land border yourself, you have to stay out for a few days. If you want to come back right away you need to go with a border run agent who has a relationship with the border office and can pay into the coffee fund

that's only at Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong, and even agents can't help you there currently.

when did your friend try this? There are a million factors involved. A story from a friend is not really something we can figure out what happened.
