Can a 30 day stamp from a border (Savanakhet/Mukdahàn) be extended or not? I hope to get a Tourist visa from that embassy but given the denial here in Vientiane I'm not so sure if I will be able to get one. What is my best option here? Should I try to get a visa or take a chance at the border without one?
TLDR : Answer Summary
A 30-day visa exempt entry stamp received at the Savannakhet border cannot be extended. You can apply for a tourist visa at the embassy in Savannakhet, but you will need to provide proof of funds (20,000 baht or equivalent) and proof of onward travel. You are allowed only two 30-day visa exempt entries per calendar year by land, so consider your current entries before deciding. If you are denied the tourist visa in Savannakhet and haven't used your two entries yet, you may try to enter again at Mukdahan, where you can also extend that entry for an additional 30 days at the immigration office for a fee.
