How far ahead can I get an extension on a visa free entry? Have just arrived from Singapore to Krabi 5 days ago on a 30-day exempt stamp (Canadian passport). I want to go relax on Lanta, can I just go to Thai immigration in Krabi town to extend my "visa" now before I go to Lanta even though it's not close to the end of the 30 days? I'd like to relax on Lanta without worries, and it's a giant pain to hire a car to drive from Lanta to Thai immigration in Krabi town (about 3 hours) in 3 weeks to extend it if I decide to stay longer on Lanta. Would the immigration office let me do the extension before I go to Lanta?
Thank you for any info!
TLDR : Answer Summary
You can typically apply for a visa extension at Thai immigration when you have 30 days or less remaining on your existing visa-free entry stamp. Since you have a 30-day exemption stamp and wish to extend it now, it should be possible to apply for an extension in Krabi before heading to Lanta. However, it's recommended to check directly with the immigration office for specific policies, as they can vary by location. Expect the extension fee to be around 1900 baht.
