TLDR : Answer Summary
It is possible to extend a 90-day entry stamp from a multiple entry NON-O visa, but there are specific rules. A 30-day extension for tourists is applicable only if you entered as a tourist. The 60-day family visit extension can only be used once during the entire lifespan of the visa, which means you will not be able to apply for another family visit extension unless you obtain a new visa. Some suggest border hopping as an alternative to obtain another 90-day entry.

Why don't you just border bounce and get another 90?

I don't even have the visa yet. Just trying to plan the timing of when I will need to do my first 90 day border bounce so it doesn't land on Jan 1st. Trying to understand my options since this will be my first time for that visa.

After entering and border bouncing every 90 days you re-enter just before your Visa expires for your final 90 days which you then extend in country using the 60 days visiting Thai family extension giving you a total stay of almost 17 months. The land borders will be open 1-Jan so you need not lose any days.

thanks. Just want to keep options open in case I don't feel like traveling at that time. I do realize it's best to wait until after the 90 days right at the end of the visa to get the most out of it, but may not want to travel just before new years. I haven't decided yet. Good to know there's options.

One 60 days extention per visa.

a 30 day extension is a tourist extension and only available if you entered as a tourist.

You can use the 60 day visiting Thai family extension only ONE TIME during the entire life of the visa. So you won't be able to apply for another visiting Thai family extension until you have a new visa once you use it.
