I am looking for some advice. Last year I changed my extension of stay from a business visa to an extension based upon retirement. No problem.

I have now been offered employment and wish to convert the extension back from retirement to business.

I am receiving conflicting views as to whether this is possible or whether I shall have to cancel the retirement extension, leave the country and apply for a new visa outside the country.

Your advice is sought.

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether it is possible to convert their extension of stay from a retirement visa back to a business visa without having to leave Thailand. There are conflicting views on this matter regarding the process involved, specifically if they need to cancel their current retirement extension, leave the country, and apply for a new visa outside Thailand. Community comments suggest consulting the local immigration office and potentially dealing with two offices if the extension was issued by a different location.

Most likely you need to leave Thailand without a re-entry permit to enter Thailand again on a tourist status to follow the in-country application procedure. Or apply for a Non-B visa at the Thai embassy/consulate around.

The best is to ask your local immigration office(s) for their policy. Or have your new employer talk with the local office. Remember, you may have to deal with two offices if your current extension was issued by a different office from the one where the new workplace is located. There would be no downside to asking.
