TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to convert a NON-O retirement visa to an O-X visa within Thailand. To do so, individuals should contact their local immigration office to obtain the specific requirements needed for the O-X visa. According to the Los Angeles Thai Consulate, foreigners who enter Thailand with different types of visas or visa exemptions may also be eligible to apply for a Non-O-X visa through the Immigration Bureau.

The Non-OX visa is a 10 year multiple entry visa ("sticker"). Only a handful of countries qualify for this visa. This is one of the few visas that are sold inside Thailand. This is a retirement visa (50+ years old), and you also have to show a lot of money in a bank account as well.
Yes...contact your local immigration office to get their list of requirements for the
O-X.

Piet de Keizer I tried to find the link to where it said it's sold inside the country but I couldn't :( I know when it rolled out you COULD get it inside or outside thailand BUT you might indeed be right, and it's only available in your country before you come here now..
I can't find that MFA link that says how to get it in thailand :(
Applicants must be aged 50 years and over (on the day of submitting application)Applicants must be nationals and passport holders of eligible countries, namely; Japan, Australia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Canada and United States.Applicants must apply for visa at the Royal Thai Embassy/Royal Thai Consulate-General in the country of their nationality or where they have a permanent residence so i guess if you have been living in thailand for a year or more on some status then thailand could be deemed your place of permanent residence.
but I believe the Thai Embaasy also will want a police clearance report from your home country...follow their website instructions.

Piet de Keizer Okay, lets sort this out. you CANNOT apply for an O-A visa inside the country
You CAN apply for an O-X visa inside the country and it is NOT an extension with a re-entry permit. it is a 5 year multiple entry visa STICKER that the immigration office puts in your passport and after 5years you go to the immigration office and they put a new 5 year O-X multiple entry visa sticker in AND you get stamped in for 5 years on every entry..

Piet de Keizer the O-A is a 3 Million Thai baht deposit in a Thai bank for a ten year visa 5+5.
