I'm on a tourist visa until 11th October.. i just got married and have kor ror 2 and 3 both. I do have a kasikorn bank account with balance over 400000 maintained since last 1 week and i know the rule says 2 months.

My question is how can convert tourist visa to NON O marriage visa. A lot of mixed answers i get is like 1 month first and then 12 months... others say 3 months first and then 12 months.

Can i please get a genuine advice and is it easy to do myself at the immigration?
Answer summary
The user seeks advice on converting their tourist visa to a NON-O marriage visa after recently getting married. They are confused about the duration requirements and the process due to conflicting information from different sources. Key points in the discussion mention that typically, immigration may require a marriage duration of at least 2 months before considering such conversions. Suggestions include applying for a 60-day family extension first while seeking information from local immigration on conversion options, or traveling to a neighboring country to obtain a NON-O visa based on marriage. Various commenters provided insights on required documentation, bank balance requirements, and emphasized visiting the local immigration office for personalized guidance.

Just go to immigration and ask. Or easier. Get an agent.

Get or make a checklist of items the local immigration office requires to do what you are wanting to do. That's what I do. They gave me a packet with the TM 87, and other forms required, such as copies of your passport required, lease, landlords ID, Chanote, housebook, bank statement, passport size photos etc. My change to O was based on retirement since I don't have a copy of our US marriage certificate. Everything for my O had to be in duplicate since it is sent to another office for approval. So does the marriage extension from experience. Everything in duplicate and they wanted both to be original bank letters.

Best bet go to Loas or Vietnam get a 90 day Non O. When your money has been in bank for two months head to immigration and get extension

You get 3 months first as non o, then you need to apply for yearly extension before one month visa expires. Need to keep 4k for 2 months when apply. I just done.

If you are married, you qualify for a 60 day family extension, do that first and you buy some time.

Ole Kristoffersen only necessary if the Immigration Office will not do the Non-O for a marriage of less than 2 months ;)

you will need TWO printouts of the Kor Ror 2 from the Amphur. One for the application to the conversion to the 90-days Non-O Visa, and another one for the application to the 1-year extension. Your won't have to show your Kor Ror 3 original rose bordered marriage certificate, but it is good to take it along when you visit Immigration (always together with your wife)

Given the new regulations gazeted end August and effective 15 September, Iโ€™d definitely recommend you go to your local ( nearest) Immigration Office.

They will have someone there to guide you through the proces with fact rather than maybe.

Good luck ๐Ÿคž

Get a balance statement from your bank, and the letter from them stating it is your account. These, together with your 2 marriage documents, and you should have gotten two copies from the Amphur where you got married, as immigration will keep one original of each (in the future you just show the other original and give them a copy of it), a copy of your wife's Thai ID card, and a copy of the housebook she is listed in. That should immediately get you the first 90 day stamp for bt2000. They might want a copy of your TM30 also. You both always go to immigration for anything visa extension related. The two month bank balance only applies for the one year extension. Immigration will also give you a list of all the documents you will need for your one year extension. Because you already have the bt400,000+ in your bank account, and I assume for more than a month, as soon as you get all the documents, and pictures for the extension you can apply, or after the two months, as that is why the first stamp is for 90 days. The one year extension is bt1900. I might add, keep copies of everything, as next year everything is the same, just needing new pictures, and bank letters, unless you move.

Go to the immigration office you plan to use and ask there. They all have their little differences as to paperwork requirements.

You probably cannot convert to a marriage visa. Immigration requires you to be married for at least 2 months before they will even entertain it. If you just got married, and your permission to stay expires in a month, you are not going to have enough time.

The easiest option is going to be to travel to Laos and apply for the non-O visa based on being married to a Thai.

The other option you have is going to require you to go to your immigration office and ask them if they do the 60-day visiting Thai family extension. If they say yes, then you ask them if they allow conversion from tourist to non-O visa based on marriage. If they also say yes to that, then you would have to apply for the 60-day family extension. Wait to be married long enough to satisfy immigration. Then apply to do the conversion from tourist to non-O. The money does not need to be in the account for any specific amount of time for a marriage visa, but that also depends on what your immigration office says. If you decide to do it that way, you better get very comfortable going to immigration as you're going to be going there to ask if it's possible, going there to apply for the 60 days, going back to apply for the conversion, going back after about a month to pickup the actual non-O visa. Then a couple months later going again to apply for the 1-year extension, which also has an under consideration which means you'll be going back to get the extension. By my count, that's 6 trips in the next few months, and that's if you don't have to leave because you're missing anything.

Or if you went to Laos and came back with the non-O visa, you would only need to go 2 times, once to apply for the 12-month extension, and again to pick up that extension.

kohsa9997 TM7 is for the application to the 1-year extension of stay, AFTER you have run down 2 months of the 90-days Non-Imm-O Married-to-a-Thai-wife Visa. By this date your 400,000 THB have been sitting in your bank account for the required two months. Right now Immigration obviously allows you to apply for the conversion from a visa-exempt entry to a 90-days Non-Imm-O Marriage Visa, because they gave you the form TM87. For this application, there is no seasoning requirement for the money - it just needs to already sit in your account. Check the form TM87 carefully, it might say that you need a rental contract

i went to immigration yesterday and they gave me tm87 to fill. The marriage does not have 2 months of rule but only the bank balance is important.

Not arguing just giving my point of view... can you or someone else verify this information i have found out please ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you in advance.

kohsa9997 how can anyone on FB verify what you were told at your Immigration Office, you do as they say or miss out?

kohsa9997 TM87 implies you are on a visa exempt entry, it's normally TM86 if you have an actual tourist visa. If your immigration office is willing to accept your application to change to a Non-O based on marriage now then you can just apply. You have the money in the bank (2 month rule only applies to extensions) and you have enough time remaining on your entry stamp. Did the immigration officer that gave you the form understand you were only just married? The majority of immigration offices won't consider an application in your situation but if yours will then go ahead.

kohsa9997 OK, the TM87 is what you need now to apply for the Non-O. The TM7 is for an extension of stay, which you will need when your 90 day Non-O is down to the last 30 days (as you said your already stamped in until the 11th October)
