Hello all!

Is it possible to convert from ED Visa to Marriage Visa? Or do I need to change to another Visa before doing so?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is possible to convert an ED Visa to a Marriage Visa in Thailand. You will need to visit your Immigration Office and request a change of reason for your extension of stay. If your ED Visa has expired, you may need to exit Thailand and apply for the Non-O Visa from outside the country or return on a Visa Exempt or Tourist Visa to apply for the Marriage Visa. Ensure you have the required documentation and that you meet the financial requirements.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Ask your immigration office if they'll let you switch from one reason to another. If they say yes you'll need to get documentation from your school that states you will conclude studying on xxxx date and then take that to immigration and cancel your extension and immediately apply for a new extension based on marriage to Thai.

If your immigration says you cannot switch then you'll need to cancel your education extension and leave and return.

You can ask to change the reason for your extension of stay (assuming that your Visa has expired and you are on an extension of stay). Go to your Immigration Office and ask them if they will do that (I assume you already have the 400k in your Thai bank account to meet the financial requirements). If not you need to exit and either apply for your Non-O from outside or re-enter on Visa Exempt or a Tourist Visa and apply in country.

if you're poor you can't live in Thailand with your spouse?

Not if you don't meet the modest financial requirements to get the correct Visa

I am currently still on ED Visa and have about 6 months left. But would prefer to move to Marriage Visa sooner than later, planning all right now. ๐Ÿ™‚ Just want to make sure that I could apply for Marriage Visa while I am on ED.

@Step ****
if you are on an Ed visa you need to get off that by leaving and re-entering on a visa exempt. If you're on an extension of stay you need to cancel it before leaving
