What is involved in changing from a DTV to a non o during the 5 year DTV period and is this allowed? Currently I am not in a position to move permanently but spend many months a year in Thailand. Thank you in advance for your advice. Kopkunkrap

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether an individual can change from a DTV visa to a Non-O visa during the 5 year DTV period. According to the comments, it is generally not possible to change the type of visa directly in Thailand without cancellation, as one would need to request the embassy to cancel the current DTV visa. However, there is mention that all visas can be changed for a fee. It's advised to consider that the DTV visa allows for year-long stays without needing to switch to a different visa.

If you pay some money, every Visa can be changed in Thailand, so no problem you go on retirement. But it make no sense, because you even can extend DTV and can stay all year, even on money know difference 500j for DTV,800k for Nono retirement extension

You can't change anything. You'd request that the embassy cancel your DTV and go from there.
