When applying for an METV, can your flight out of Thailand and back (within the 60 day period) be from a country other than your country of residence?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, when applying for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV), your initial flight must depart from your country of residence, but subsequent flights can be from any country within your 60-day travel period.

The flight out of Thailand can be bound for any country.

Your first itinerary has to start from your country because METV can be applied only in your home country, and you must be in the country where the embassy/consulate is located as of the application.

The second and later itineraries can be from/to any country.

Thank you Ellie. And the onward flight needs to be within the first 60 days. Do I need to show a flight back into Thailand as well in order to show the requirement for multi-entry?

not necessarily a ticket, but you could submit an intended date and flight number. That said, an actual ticket would be pretty convincing.
