Can I apply for the O-X visa with funds in my Canadian bank account and do I need to be in my home country to apply?

Some questions about the O-X visa.

If I apply from my home country, the funds can be in my Canadian bank account, correct? Also, can these funds be in investment accounts held with a bank? Or does it just have to be in a bank account in cash?

Also, in that these applications are all e-visas now, do you actually have to be in your home country to apply, or just out of Thailand?

Any help is appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the O-X visa, applicants must have funds in a bank account located in Thailand, not just any account like a Canadian bank account or investment account. Additionally, although the application process is now electronic, it is necessary to be outside Thailand to apply, but not necessarily in your home country.

Unfortunately, no, you have to have the funds in an account of the bank located in Thailand, that is the general rule for Non-OX.

You need to check the requirements on the website of the embassy/consulate where you are going to apply for Non-OX.

Details are embassy/consulate specific, but what we understand is, that you upload your travel history with passport stamps and you provide the travel proof from your home country to Thailand.

Only the Thai consulate in Sydney, Australia, somehow allows you to have 100% funds in AUS for Non-OX. That's why more Aussies apply for Non-OX than other nationalities. Even the Thai embassy in Canberra doesn't allow the funds in Australia.

Sadly, this is why in many cases, advice on Non-OX from Australians for other nationalities is not relevant.

So they got back to me. Apparently, they pretty much said applying for the O-X is close to impossible in Canada because you have to have the 1.5 million baht in a Thai bank. They recommended applying for the O-A first, which can have the money in Canada. Oh well, I thought it was worth a shot.

If you want to keep your funds in Canada, getting Non-OA is one of the route. Or check detail Non-O retirement + 1-year extension using Embassy affidavit. But those are away from your original topic. Please make a new post if you get any question after checking.

Thanks, that is good to know. I just called the embassy in Ottawa, Canada, asking if the funds can be in a Canadian bank account. I will let you know what they say when they call me back.
