Hi everyone brand new to this group. I'm from Canada retiring there next year . Question has anyone apply for the OA visa online in Canada. You get to keep the B800,000 in your home bank. The application looks fairly easily. Also when it's time to renew the 1 year extension , does the money can still be in your home bank or in the Thai bank. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A new expat from Canada is inquiring about the OA visa application process, specifically whether they can apply online while keeping the required funds of B800,000 in a Canadian bank account. Responses indicate that while it is possible to use an affidavit for proof of income instead of the banked money, funds must be in a Thai bank account if the banked money option is chosen. Additionally, there are critical differences between the OA visa acquired outside Thailand and the NON-O visa typically granted within Thailand.

Note the big differences between a non-oa acquired from outside Thailand, to a non-o acquired IN Thailand.

Non-oa, can use home money but requires ongoing insurance mandatory insurance.

Non-o (in Thailand) you need to have banked 800k in Thailand, then 1900THB per year after the initial 90 day @ 2000THB, with no mandatory insurance.

Mandatory insurance can get very expensive, depending on age, health etc...

, a monthly bank transfer is not among the options to meet the financial requirements for an Initial In-country Non-O retirement visa. We have no news any immigration office would accept the monthly transfer to your Thai bank account for the first yearly extension from an in-country Non-O visa.

, OP as a Canadian, MIGHT not need 800K baht in Thailand for an in-country initial Non-O visa based on retirement.

As a Canadian, you can get an affidavit from your embassy in Thailand as proof of monthly income instead of banked money of 800K baht if you meet the financial requirements with that affidavit. But if you want to use the banked money method instead of proof of monthly income, your funds have to be in your Thai bank account, not in Canada.
