TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for the 5-year DTV visa from the USA. The process can take between 3 weeks to 30 days, and the cost varies based on the embassy location. For example, the Chicago embassy charges around 400 USD. It's advisable to check the specific embassy's website for exact costs, as they can differ. Additionally, if your application is rejected, the application fee is non-refundable, so you would need to pay again for a new application.

In order … yes, it depends on which location you apply through (there may be several in the US), and yes.

From Chicago embassy it’s 400 USD.

And anything I’ve looked at- if you do apply in Thailand it’s far more expensive. Apply before you fly.

Its officially not possible to apply in Thailand. Yes some agents manage to do it. But that will be expensive.

the international schools allow you to do it in the south.

Yes, you can apply from the US. It will take longer (3 weeks to 30 days). If you’re doing it in person you’ll have to find out which location based on state I believe they’re 4. the Royal Thai embassy Washington DC seems to be the main one. You can also do it online.

if you apply from US how do you deal with the required fund deposit? Doesn’t it have to be in a Thai account?
Darren *********
You have to apply outside of Thailand. I went through Chicago and it too about 2 weeks depending on Thai holidays and any requested extra information.

@Kai *****
no you just have to show the money in your account. Doesn't have to be a Thai bank accout.

and do I need to maintain the fund there regularly? I mean will they require monthly report or we’ll just show them one time?
Darren *********
@Kai *****
they can ask anytime you extend or enter the country. They might not but they are cracking down on the abuse of all their visas.

@Kai *****
if you extend the visa stay in Thailand you definitely will need to show the funds, if you leave and re-enter Thailand to get a new 180 day stamp there is a low possibility they might ask.

You can only apply online

Check the embassy website for the price. Each embassy sets their own price.

All visa applications are submitted with no refunds.

this isn’t visa related , but would you know when I rent a condo , do I pay maintenance or owner , I know I pay electric and water
Brandon ************
@Mark *******
the condo will have an annual maintenance fee and the owner should pay that. But check your lease to make sure. If it's not mentioned then they pay it.
