I just went today to Chaeng watthana to apply for an emergency 60 day extension to my Non-Imm O (volunteer) visa, which expires 04 January. They told me I was too early and I needed to come back the last week of December. Anyone else apply for the extension more than a week before their experation? I was told previously by two different visa officers at that office that I could apply for the extension any time so I’m a little nervous that when I go to get the extension at the end of December they’re going to tell me something different again.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about applying for a 60-day emergency extension on their Non-Immigrant O (volunteer) visa, which is set to expire soon. They were informed at the immigration office that it was too early to apply and were advised to return closer to the expiration date. The discussion also reflected concerns regarding the legitimacy of their volunteer visa and the required documentation, emphasizing the importance of providing appropriate paperwork to avoid complications during the extension process.

They are basically telling you your volunteer visa is bogus. Did you give them all the documents from the NGO you are volunteering at, and show them your work permit? They are simply giving you an unable to leave 60 day extension for bt1900 which you apply for no later than 7 days before your current one expires. They are not extending your volunteer visa, because it looks like you do not have all the documentation from the registered volunteer organization to actually extend it another 90 days. Technically there is no 60 day extension of a ligitimate volunteer visa. It is 90 days at a time, with the correct documentation certifying that you are in fact ligitimately working as a volunteer.

I have all the required paperwork. I know there are a lot of bogus volunteer visas out there currently. Mine is not one of them. It's just that I tried to apply too early.

no I was making the point.. its coming up to New year..and the mass exodus up to the North and North east starts ..so traffic up Rangsit can be a nightmare.. plus most of the immigration police will be on the move.. give your self time ..πŸ‘

Ah OK mate. Thought you meant out of the country. Just back to Northern Province after a funeral in BKK so don't see me going back there until spring when hopefully I can get out to make a quid. All the best.

can anyone on any visa apply for that 60 days extension, by only filling out the form and bring the same documents that you will normally need when you extend a tourist visa or visa exemption?

Especially if your "volunteer" visa is a bodgy one!

the earliest you can extend a visa in advance is that 2 weeks? if you have tourist visa or visa exemption?

. In pre-covid days you could extend at any time during the validity of the visa you were on. These days it appears immigration are asking people to leave it to the last week of November. But I doubt you're on a TR or an exempt. These would have expired months ago
