If you have a Non 'O' Volunteer visa, can you extend it for 7 days inside the country? My work permit was approved a long time ago, but things changed in Chiang Mai...it was recently approved for the second time, but now it's not certain I'll get it in time to go to immigration and get the extension. I have the receipt of course, as well as all the documents pertaining to why I am late to extend, but I'm not sure that will help. It would be a shame to have to leave the country and start all this again when the permit may well come a day after I leave. The office of employment did say they would try and get it done in time, but added that it may not happen. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query concerns the possibility of extending a Non 'O' Volunteer visa within Thailand by 7 days due to delays in obtaining a work permit. While the user has the necessary documentation, including a receipt for the work permit application, they are unsure about the outcome of their extension request. Comments reveal that typically, one can apply for an extension and pay an overstay fine if applicable, but there is no standard 7-day extension; if an extension is denied, one has 7 days to leave the country.

What usually happens when there's a short amount of days is that you just pay the overstay fine for the days from the time your current stamp expires until you apply for your extension.
In Bangkok as long as you're not at the 40 day mark <- the point when the 500 baht a day fine stops, you can pay the overstay and apply for a year extension. I would check with your immigration office to see how they wanna handle it
