This is a long shot but worth a try. I’m a Slovak citizen with a permanent residency is Slovakia, holding Sk passport. However, I currently live and work in Croatia, here I’m officially registered but obviously I only have temporary residency since my perm is in my home country. I was planning to apply via Budapest embassy but with this new update being made regarding the application I am confused. Can I still apply for the Budapest embassy or do I need to travel back to Slovakia, my place of permanent residency in order to apply?? I know people keep asking in this group about it, but I cannot find a similar case. I tried to contact Budapest embassy regarding this but no reply at all. Thank you in advance for any information

Ask the embassy if your specific status there is acceptable for them or not.

Of course you apply at the place where you live and work - which is Croatia.

The underlying issue is that they want to prevent people to use

" easier" ( like e g. Vietnam,or Laos) countries, while they are there on tourist visas ( usually only for a few weeks).

Also embassies in countries where you reside, are much better equipped to judge the validity of the documents submitted.

The only "of course" is that you should read any specific rules posted on the Embassy's website and contact that Embassy by email if you have any specific questions. Every embassy has its own interpretation of the rules (sometimes different consulates within the same country have different rules). The Thai government has not articulated any "underlying issue" and even if they did the assumption that the rules would be carefully crafted to address that underlying issue betrays a complete misunderstanding of how Thailand operates. The correct answer is to contact the specific embassy. And even then you can't be 100% sure they told you the correct info or that their implementation of the rules won't change the next day.

You should be in Slovakia if you don't have permanent residence elsewhere. Your application would be handled by Vienna

KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 in Finland temporary residence is not enough, so this is an embassy-specific situation, so as you said, he/she should contact the embassy and confirm if it ok or not 👌
