TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is still possible to apply for a Retirement Visa extension in Thailand if you meet the requirements. The key considerations include whether your current visa is valid or if you are on amnesty due to visa expiration. If you are already in Thailand on a valid Non-Immigrant O visa, you can apply for an extension of stay based on being over 50 years old. However, if your visa has expired and you are currently on amnesty, you cannot apply for the Retirement Visa extension from inside the country.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

As this point since closure of border is >120 days, so I guess no one has a stamp that still valid on VE/Non O to apply within the country for a New over 50 ā“

actually you are not quite correct. IF someone came in on a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa then went on amnesty BUT before the amnesty expires they applied for a 30 day regular extension (that they didn't get yet) OR a 60 day visit thai family extension then they could indeed apply for an in country 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office.

So
@Adam *****
, the question goes back to you. WHAT was your original entry type that got you "stuck" here when they closed the country at the end of March?

Okay, IF the O/P is NOT on amnesty from an existing Non-O VISA entry or an extension of stay based on a Non-Immigrant Type visa they cannot get a 90 day Non-O based on being over 50 inside the country :/

That is because at this time, <- meaning now, you can't process a Non-O application based on being over 50 (retirement) from amnesty. It's because you need "real" hard stamp days left on your current stamp to get thru the under consideration period not imaginary amnesty days.

No, to get into Thailand you need the Certificate of Entry. People using the visa on basis over 50 years of age, (retirement) are not listed to enter Thailand.

In the case you are inside of Thailand using a Non Immigrant Visa and you like to stay longer you can apply at the Immigration Office for the Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age (Retirement)

i am not an expert, but as his visa had expired, he would not longer have a valid non-O. as such have to start the whole process from scratch. why wait if can get non-O based on marriage from inside the thailand.

I don't know, because it's not clear to me what the OP has. The OP is seeking an extension of stay based on retirement; we don't know if his current extension of stay has expired, or is expiring. I'm assuming it's expiring.

Do you know if his visa/ extension of stay has expired, and if so, how do you know it?

I think it's something that should be asked at your local immigration office. I also recommend waiting for more information from the government on what to do after July 31.

Does it means, if I had a Non Immigration O multiple entry (based on marriage to a Thai) expired and on amnesty now that I can apply for extension over 50 when I meet the requirements ?

you need to check if any additional note about reason of Non-O such as Thai wife, spouse, etc was written on your multiple entry visa sticker.

No I did not write all that,
@Ellie ******
, you can apply for this Extension of Stay if you have the Non Immigrant O visa, the reason why you got the visa is not that important

The OP wants an extension of stay based on being 50+ ("retired"). The Thai government is still issuing these extension of stays as normal.

Can you define "retirement visa"? People like to use the wrong words to describe something:

There is the extension of stay based on being 50+, that is acquired inside Thailand.

There is the visa sticker, that is acquired outside of Thailand.

Which one of these two do you want?

There is also the Non-O for reason of retirement issued in-country to a person with at least two weeks left on a tourist visa or visa-exempt entry.

Did immigration say they can issue you a Non-O visa inside Thailand while on amnesty?

That's true. However, the OP wouldn't have a valid tourist visa or visa exempt entry.

yes if you meet the requirements. Ask your local immigration office for them.

They slightly differ.

But your bank account must not drop below 800k for 3 months

What kind of visa or extension are you on currently? It depends on your current status if you can get extension based on being over 50 or not.

If the OP is outside of Thailand, he won't be able to get the "Retirement Visa" to enter Thailand. If he wants an extension of stay, he can.
