Can I apply for a Non-Immigrant "O" visa as a dependent of a student on an ED Plus visa in Thailand?

My wife is a student at Bangkok International University. She has a non-immigrant ED Plus visa. From what I've read online, that should make me, her husband, eligible for a Non-Immigrant "O" (Dependent) visa. I asked the university but they weren't helpful and said I should check with Pathumthani Immigration Office to get details. I've called, but I only ever get Thai speakers, and emails and messages to them have remained unanswered. Can someone confirm if this is indeed possible, and perhaps kindly point me to where I can find the application steps and requirements?

Side question: I've scanned the boards here and see that proof of money in a bank account needs to STAY in the account for 2 months before it can be proof of financial stability, is that also true for this case? Thanks for any help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, as the spouse of a student on a Non-Immigrant ED Plus visa, you are eligible to apply for a Non-Immigrant "O" (Dependent) visa. To proceed, visit your local immigration office to obtain the specific requirements and documentation needed for your application. It is typically necessary to provide your wife’s university documentation, her passport, visa, and marriage certificate. As for financial proof, you likely won’t need to show proof of funds since you are applying as a dependent on her visa. However, check with the immigration office for any specific requirements they might have.

If your spouse is enrolled in a uni on an ED Plus visa, you can indeed apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on being immediate family of a foreigner attending uni here. You need to go to your immigration office (where your wife would get her extension) get the hand out listing the requirements for you to apply for the in country 90 day Non-O visa based on being a "trailing spouse".

The school will have to provide documentation, you'll need your wife's passport, visa, entry stamp, extension if she has one, marriage documents AND you will need what ever is on the list from the immigration office documentation wise.

Unless I'm mistaken there shouldn't be any proof of funds for you as you're getting a 'piggy back' Non-O based off your wife holding an ED Plus visa for attending a university

At most offices you need a minimum of 15 days left on your tourist visa or visa free entry stamp to apply for an in country Non-Imm visa. You apply, pay, get a receipt that says come back in 2 weeks and on that date you go get the Non-O visa and new 90 day stamp inked in.

Some offices can't issue in country Non-Imm visas (dunno about Pathum Thani) and that means you'd have to go to a thai consulate in a nearby country to get the Non-O visa thru the eVisa online system while waiting in that country until it's approved

You need to take your wife, possibly a representative from the uni, to the immigration office and see what is required at that office or if they even do in country Non-Imm visas thru that office

As usual, thanks a bunch. The no proof of funds is good news. Having to go down there in person just to ask is inconvenient, but I suppose nothing can be done about that, all part of the trouble of getting visas. Anywho, thanks again, Tod. Here's hoping it'll work out.

Sadly
@RJ *****
that it's "inconvenient" doesn't even factor into it.

You want the visa, you need to see what the requirements are at that office and IF that office can even issue visas to begin with 🙂

sincerely good luck with it (y)

@RJ *****
keep in mind, Immigration might want to see your marriage documents translated and legalized by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ask them

they will get that information when they show up and ask about getting the visa issued in country. 🙂
