A quick question. I get 1 year multiple visas every year in Penang. I got wp, and everything in order. My visa expires on June 24, but I want to apply for a new one late may, because I will be travelling, and I come back after June 24th. What are the rules for this? Is it ok to apply for a new visa a month or even more, before the ole expires

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual inquires about applying for a new one-year multiple-entry visa before the expiration of their current visa, which expires on June 24. They plan to travel and return after this date and are considering applying in late May. Responses indicate that it's generally acceptable to apply for a new visa 45 days prior to expiration, suggesting border runs as an option to maintain legal status and extending stays appropriately.

or just go travelling and before you go back to Thailand apply for a new visa at the Thai Consulate where you are.

you can buy the re-entry permit at your immigration office or at Suvarnibhumi airport just before passport control in terminal 2, or follow these signs

Just for example,

Border run 31 May

Admitted until 31 Aug

Buy re entry Permit and leave Thailand.

Come back before 31 Aug, write the Re-entry permit number as visa number on your arrival card and get Admitted until 31 Aug again, Then get your documents ready and apply for an Extension of Stay at Immigration of go to Penang.

Copy again: re-entry stamp if you come back after the valid until date on the visa but before this 90 day period ends.

Ok, so lets say I make a border run late may, and get stamped for 3 month when I get back, what happens to that stamp, when I get back on June 1st when the visa is expired. Is that stamp still valid?

Between 45 days and 24 jun you can apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay at your local Immigration

Ok, but back to my original question. If my visa expires on June 24. How soon before it expires, can I apply foe a new one. And I am travelling with infants, so we are going straight to Bangkok. So I have to get a new visa before we leave, on June 8. I am guessing up to a month before, should be ok?

afaik, the only place to get a 1 year, multiple entry visa in Penang. I can't get it in copenhagen.

One option might be...

If you do border run before your travel late May, you will be stamped until late Aug. I guess you will have enough time to prepare to apply later.

Or

Check with the consulate in Penang if they can void (or cancel) the current one and issue new one.

I'm saying this because some consulates mention in their web that only issuing consulate would be able to void issued and active visa, you need to do it before you apply a new one at different place. Though I had never read any report like that. you need to check with them.

If everything in order you can apply 45 days before the last day for an 1 year Extension of Stay based on working in Thailand at your Immigration Office.

Official you can not have 2 valid visa's inside your passport, it is totally up to the discretion and leniency of the staff at the consulate to issue a new visa before the old one is expired.

I would say just make a border run for a new 90 days Admitted to stay period and a re-entry stamp if you come back after the valid until date on the visa but before this 90 day period ends.

Lets ask
@Tod ********
...Is Penang still granting 1 year Non B for business?
Tod *********
Unless I'm wrong it's the same stuff

listed as a managing director, own 20% shares, listed as a director on the work permit (work permit valid at least 8 months) and the rest of that pile of paper and you can get a year-multi-Non-B
